quick help & faq - Giving a gift
-
At Affinity University, your one-time gift provides immediate resources to fuel our most critical initiatives. Unless you designate your gift to a specific fund, your contribution supports the Affinity Annual Fund, which allows leadership to direct money where the need is greatest.
Your generosity directly impacts:
Scholarships & Financial Aid: Expanding access for talented students regardless of their financial background.
Academic Innovation: Supporting cutting-edge research, new degree programs, and faculty recruitment.
Student Life: Enhancing campus facilities, career services, and mental health resources.
Emergency Needs: Providing a safety net for students facing unexpected financial hardships.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you have a specific passion—like the Arts, Athletics, or a particular College—you can usually select that "Designation" on our giving page to ensure your gift goes exactly where you want it!
Keywords: single donation, one-time payment, immediate impact, where the money goes, unrestricted funds, area of greatest need, general fund, tax deduction, gift processing, allocation, student support, operational costs, one-off contribution.
-
Affinity University is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which means your charitable contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Here is what you need to know for your records:
Email Receipts: You will receive an automated tax receipt via email immediately after your transaction is processed. Please keep this for your records.
Annual Summaries: If you make multiple gifts throughout the year, we can also provide a cumulative year-end statement upon request.
Quid Pro Quo: If you receive a gift in return for your donation (like a t-shirt or event tickets), your deductible amount is the total gift minus the fair market value of the item received.
EIN/Tax ID: If you need our Employer Identification Number (EIN) for your tax return, it is available on your official gift receipt or by contacting the Affinity Advancement Office.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Don’t forget to check if your employer has a Matching Gift program! It’s an easy way to double your impact (and your tax-deductible contribution) without spending an extra dime.
Keywords: tax deduction, 501(c)(3), IRS, charitable contribution, tax receipt, write-off, fiscal year, gift acknowledgement, non-profit status, tax-exempt, EIN, federal tax, donation record.
-
We want to make sure your records are as organized as your generosity.
Here is how you can access your receipts:
Immediate Email: As soon as your gift is processed, an official tax receipt will be sent to the email address you provided.
Self-Service Portal: You can view, download, or print your entire giving history at any time by logging into your [Affinity Giving Account].
Annual Summary: Every January, Affinity University sends out a consolidated "Year-End Giving Statement" for donors who have made multiple contributions throughout the prior calendar year.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you don't see your receipt within 10 minutes, check your Junk or Promotions folder. To ensure our receipts always hit your primary inbox, add giving@affinity.edu to your safe-senders list!
Keywords: receipt, email confirmation, acknowledgment letter, tax record, proof of gift, giving history, donor portal, digital receipt, paper copy, year-end statement, transaction summary, missing receipt, duplicates.
-
Affinity University offers several secure ways to make your impact. Our online platform uses industry-standard encryption to ensure your financial data stays protected.
We currently accept the following:
Credit & Debit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
Digital Wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal for a quick, one-touch checkout.
Bank Transfers (ACH): Directly from your checking or savings account (this often has the lowest processing fees for the University!).
Physical Checks: Please make checks payable to Affinity University and mail them to:
Affinity Advancement Office 123 University Way, Boulder, CO
Stocks & Securities: We also accept gifts of appreciated stock or qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from IRAs.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’re looking to maximize your contribution, choosing Bank Transfer (ACH) ensures that more of your gift goes directly to student programs by reducing credit card processing fees!
Keywords: credit card, debit card, visa, mastercard, amex, apple pay, google pay, venmo, paypal, ach, wire transfer, check, money order, stock transfer, securities, crypto, bitcoin, payroll deduction.

Making a gift in honor or memory of a loved one, mentor, or friend is a beautiful way to create a lasting legacy at Affinity University.
To dedicate your gift:
Select the Option: On our [Online Giving Form], check the box labeled "This gift is in honor or memory of someone."
Provide Details: You'll be prompted to enter the name of the honoree and whether it is a memorial (in memory of someone deceased) or a tribute (in honor of someone living).
Notifications: If you provide an address or email for the honoree or their family, Affinity University will send them a special notification to let them know a gift was made in their name.
Note: We do not disclose the dollar amount of your gift in this notification unless you explicitly ask us to.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: These "Tribute Gifts" are a popular way to celebrate Affinity University graduations, retirements, or anniversaries! If you need help with a custom notification, just reach out to our Advancement team.
Keywords: in honor of, in memory of, tribute gift, memorial donation, commemorates, dedicated to, notify family, card sent, bereavement, anniversary gift, honorary, legacy gift, named scholarship, recognition.
-
Your security is our top priority. At Affinity University, we use industry-standard security measures to ensure that your data and your generosity are protected at every step.
Here is how we keep your information safe:
Secure Encryption: Our giving platform uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect your data as it travels from your browser to our secure servers.
PCI Compliance: We adhere to PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), meaning your credit card information is handled according to the strictest global security rules.
Data Privacy: Your personal details are used strictly for processing your gift and keeping you connected with Affinity University. We never sell or rent our donor lists to third-party organizations.
Trusted Partners: We only partner with industry-leading payment processors who maintain the highest levels of digital security.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: You’ll know your connection is secure when you see the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar and the URL begins with "https://". If you’re ever unsure, feel free to give us a call and we can process your gift over the phone!
Keywords: security, privacy, encrypted, pci compliance, secure socket layer, ssl, data protection, credit card safety, hacker, phishing, firewall, cyber security, third-party processor, vault, information sharing, gdpr, ccpa.
-
You certainly can. We respect your preference for privacy and offer a simple way to ensure your gift remains confidential.
When you make your gift, here is how anonymity works at Affinity University:
The "Anonymous" Toggle: On our giving form, simply check the box that says "I wish to remain anonymous." * Public Recognition: By selecting this, your name will be excluded from all public donor rolls, honor rolls, and annual reports.
Internal Records: Even for anonymous gifts, Affinity University must maintain internal records of your name and contact information to issue your legal tax receipt. However, these records are strictly confidential.
Special Requests: If you want your gift to be anonymous even to the specific department or program you are supporting, please let us know in the "Comments" section or contact the Advancement Office directly.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’ve already made a gift and realized you’d rather stay out of the spotlight, don't worry! Just send a quick note to alumni@affinity.edu and we can update your recognition preferences in a snap.
Bot Keywords: anonymous, private gift, hidden donor, do not publish, unlisted, confidential, silent donor, identity protection, donor recognition, annual report, name excluded, gift privacy.
-
We love celebrating our donors! At Affinity University, we believe every gift tells a story, and we offer several ways to recognize your generosity.
Unless you have requested to remain anonymous, here is how we may acknowledge your support:
Annual Honor Roll: Your name will be featured in our digital Honor Roll of Donors, published annually to celebrate the collective impact of our community.
Giving Societies: Depending on your total giving for the year, you may be invited to join one of our Recognition Societies (such as the 1924 Society or the President’s Circle), which include exclusive event invitations and university updates.
Departmental Thanks: Many departments and programs send personalized notes or videos from the students and faculty who benefit directly from your gift.
Physical Recognition: For major or multi-year commitments, there may be opportunities for naming rights or physical plaques on campus buildings and benches.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Recognition is based on the Fiscal Year (July 1 – June 30). If you want to ensure you're listed in this year's Honor Roll, make sure your gift is processed before the June 30th deadline!
Bot Keywords: recognition, honor roll, wall of fame, donor societies, giving circles, naming rights, plaque, appreciation, public thank you, impact report, annual report, stewardship, invitation, event access, president’s circle, leadership giving.
-
Don't worry—we’re here to help! While our system processes gifts immediately to get those funds to work right away, we understand that mistakes happen (like a typo in the amount or selecting the wrong fund).
If you need to make a correction, here is the best way to handle it:
Contact Us Quickly: Please email the Affinity Advancement Office at donations@affinity.edu or call us at (555) 123-4567 as soon as possible.
Provide Your Details: To speed things up, have your confirmation number (found in your email receipt) and the date of the transaction ready.
Refunds & Adjustments: While most donations are technically "final" once processed, we can usually void or refund a transaction if you notify us within 24–48 hours.
Recurring Gifts: If you accidentally set up a monthly gift instead of a one-time gift, we can easily adjust your schedule or cancel future payments through your Giving Account.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you just want to change where the money goes (e.g., from the General Fund to the Basketball Team), you don't need a refund! Just send us an email, and we can "re-designate" your gift internally.
Bot Keywords: refund, cancel gift, mistake, error, change amount, stop payment, recurring gift, monthly donation, adjustment, void, transaction error, wrong fund, stop donation, delete.
-
Currently, our one-time gift portal processes the full amount at the time of submission. We don't have a "pay later" or "deferred" option for single transactions.
However, if you'd like to reach a specific giving goal by spreading your support out, we have two great alternatives:
Recurring Giving: This is our most popular option! You can set up a monthly, quarterly, or bi-annual gift. For example, a $1,200 annual goal becomes a manageable $100 monthly contribution.
Pledges: For larger leadership gifts, you can make a formal "Pledge" to the University. This allows you to commit to a total amount now and fulfill it through a customized payment schedule over 1–5 years.
Scheduled Monthly Starts: While you can't "schedule" a one-time gift for next month, you can start a recurring gift today and manage or cancel it at any time through your [Affinity Giving Account].
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Recurring donors are the heartbeat of Affinity! By giving monthly, you provide a steady, predictable stream of support that helps us plan for student needs all year long. Plus, you’ll never have to worry about missing our year-end giving deadlines!
Bot Keywords: installments, pledge, scheduled gift, recurring, monthly giving, quarterly, semi-annual, split payment, future donation, commitment, multi-year gift, automated giving, autopay, direct debit.
-
Absolutely! We believe you should see the direct results of your generosity. At Affinity University, we make sure our donors are the first to hear about the breakthroughs and success stories they make possible.
By joining our donor community, you’ll receive:
The "Affinity Impact" Newsletter: A quarterly digital deep-dive into student success stories, faculty research, and campus milestones funded by donors like you.
Student Thank-You's: Depending on the fund you support, you may receive personal notes, videos, or "Impact Reports" directly from the students and programs benefiting from your gift.
Exclusive Event Invites: Get "behind-the-scenes" access to campus webinars, town halls with University leadership, and local alumni networking events.
Annual Impact Report: A comprehensive yearly review showing exactly how donor dollars were allocated across the University.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’re a social media fan, follow @AffinityAlumni! We post "Impact Spotlights" every week so you can see your gift in action in real-time.
Bot Keywords: impact report, stewardship, student stories, thank you note, endowment report, annual update, donor newsletter, success stories, progress report, where the money went, results, testimonials, scholarships in action, university magazine.
-
Many companies will match your donation to Affinity University dollar-for-dollar (or even triple it!), allowing your gift to go much further.
Here’s how to secure your match:
Search Your Employer: Use our [Corporate Match Search Tool] to see if your company has a matching program and to view their specific guidelines and deadlines.
Submit the Request: Most companies require you to submit a brief matching gift form (usually through their HR portal or a third-party site like Benevity or CyberGrants).
We Verify: Once you’ve submitted your request to your employer, they will contact Affinity University to verify your gift. We’ll take it from there!
Retirees & Spouses: Did you know? Many companies also match gifts made by retirees or the spouses of their employees.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’ve already made a gift this year, it might not be too late! Many companies allow you to submit a matching request up to one year after the date of your donation.
Bot Keywords: matching gift, employer match, company match, corporate giving, double my gift, triple my impact, corporate social responsibility, csr, matching form, foundation match, search tool, eligibility, workplace giving, hepdata, double the donation.
-
At Affinity University, we want your gift to support the areas you are most passionate about. While our "Greatest Need" fund is vital, you have full control over where your contribution goes.
During the checkout process, you can direct your gift in three ways:
Featured Funds: Choose from a dropdown list of our most active initiatives, such as the Affinity Scholarship Fund or Student Emergency Relief.
College & Departmental Giving: You can select a specific school (e.g., the Affinity College of Engineering) or a specific academic department.
The "Other" Box: If you don't see your preferred program listed, select "Other" and type in the name of the specific club, lab, or initiative you’d like to support. We will ensure the funds reach that exact account.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Looking to support a specific Affinity Athletics team or a niche student organization? If you can’t find it in the search bar, just drop the name in the "Comments" section of the gift form, and our gift processing team will handle the rest!
Bot Keywords: designated gift, restricted donation, specific department, program fund, academic major, sports team, student club, scholarship fund, area of interest, restricted funds, faculty research, laboratory, library fund, fine arts, capital project, restricted giving.
-
If you want to make an impact but aren't sure where to start, you aren't alone! Many of our supporters choose to give to the Affinity Annual Fund (Greatest Need).
This fund is the most flexible resource at Affinity University, allowing us to:
Pivot Quickly: Address urgent student emergencies or unexpected campus repairs.
Bridge the Gap: Supplement scholarships when federal or state funding falls short.
Seize Opportunities: Fund innovative student projects or faculty research that arises mid-year.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Still feeling undecided? Think about your own time at Affinity! Was there a specific club, a favorite professor’s department, or a scholarship that helped you? You can always split your gift between the "Greatest Need" and a program that's close to your heart.
Bot Keywords: unrestricted, greatest need, general fund, where it's needed most, university's priority, flexible giving, discretionary, president's fund, emergency aid, general scholarship, annual fund, impact most, help all students.
-
Every gift makes a difference! Whether it’s $5 or $50,000, your support directly impacts the students and programs at Affinity University.
Here are a few quick details on gift sizing:
Is there a minimum? While we gratefully accept gifts of any size, our online system has a $5 minimum to cover the basic costs of secure credit card processing.
Is there a maximum? There is no maximum limit for online donations! However, for gifts over $50,000, many donors prefer to coordinate a wire transfer or a multi-year pledge to maximize their tax benefits.
Small Gifts, Big Impact: Did you know that high "alumni participation rates" (the percentage of alumni who give any amount) actually help improve the University’s national rankings? Your $10 gift does more than you think!
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’re looking to make a Leadership Gift or want to discuss a Planned Gift (like including Affinity in your will), I can put you in touch with a dedicated Advancement Officer to walk you through the process!
Bot Keywords: minimum gift, maximum donation, small donation, large gift, endowment level, naming threshold, transaction limit, processing fee, micro-giving, major gift, five dollar gift, million dollar donation, gift ceiling, floor, scholarship minimum.
-
There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to support a great cause. Whether it’s your 5th or 50th Reunion, or a special milestone for a student org, we make it easy to give as a group.
Here is how to make sure your gift is counted toward your group’s goal:
Select Your Class Year: On our standard giving form, simply entering your graduation year will automatically attribute your gift to your Reunion Class Goal.
Group Designations: For specific clubs, fraternities, sororities, or athletic alumni groups, look for the "Affiliation" or "Group" dropdown menu during checkout.
Track the Leaderboard: Many of our reunion challenges feature a live Leaderboard. You can see how your class stacks up against others in terms of total dollars raised and donor participation percentage!
Start a New Group: If you want to start a fundraising "challenge" for a specific project, contact our Annual Giving Team to set up a custom crowdfunding page.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Don’t forget—even a small gift helps your class's Participation Rate, which is often the deciding factor in winning our annual Reunion Cup!
Bot Keywords: reunion gift, class gift, group donation, giving challenge, alumni pool, class of, anniversary gift, milestone giving, departmental challenge, crowdfunding, ignite, team fundraiser, leaderboards.
-
Don't panic! Mistakes happen, and we are here to help you get it sorted out quickly. Whether it was a typo in the amount or a double-processed transaction, we can fix it.
Here is how we handle donation errors:
Contact Us Immediately: For the fastest resolution, please email giving@affinity.edu or call the Affinity Advancement Office at (555) 123-4567.
Have Your Receipt Ready: When you contact us, please provide your Transaction ID (found in your email confirmation) and the date of the gift.
Voiding vs. Refunding: If you catch the error on the same day, we can often "void" the transaction before it fully clears your bank. If it has already cleared, we will issue a formal refund to your original payment method.
Processing Time: Once a refund is initiated on our end, it typically takes 3–5 business days for the funds to reappear in your account, depending on your bank’s policies.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you just want to change where your money is going (e.g., you accidentally gave to Athletics instead of Scholarships), you don't need a refund! Just let us know, and we can "re-designate" the funds internally to the correct program.
Bot Keywords: donation error, wrong amount, accidental gift, refund request, overcharged, extra zero, reverse transaction, stop payment, billing mistake, clerical error, gift adjustment, void, duplicate charge, contact finance, administrative correction.
-
Yes, you can! Keeping track of your impact is easy through the Affinity Alumni & Donor Portal.
Once you log in, you can:
View Full History: See a complete list of every gift you’ve made to Affinity University, including the date, amount, and which program you supported.
Download Receipts: Need a copy for tax season? You can download and print official tax receipts for any past transaction.
Track Pledges: If you have an ongoing multi-year pledge, you can see your remaining balance and upcoming scheduled payments.
Update Your Info: Ensure your mailing address and email are current so you never miss an impact report or tax statement.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you didn't create an account during your last donation, don't worry! You can "Claim your Account" at any time using the email address associated with your gifts. Just head to the [Affinity Portal Login] and click "First Time User."
Bot Keywords: giving history, donation record, donor portal, my account, past gifts, total lifetime giving, year-end statement, annual summary, giving profile, tax history, login, password reset, contribution list, archive.
-
No. The amount you choose to give is the exact amount that will be charged to your card or bank account. Affinity University does not charge any "convenience" or "platform" fees for online giving.
However, to ensure your gift has the maximum impact, here are two things to keep in mind:
Credit Card Processing: Like all online transactions, credit card companies charge a small processing fee (usually 2%–3%).
The "Cover the Fee" Option: On our giving form, you’ll see an option to "Add a small amount to cover processing fees." By checking this box, you ensure that 100% of your intended gift goes directly to your chosen program.
Fee-Free Giving (ACH): If you’d like to avoid high processing fees entirely, choosing Bank Transfer (ACH) is the most cost-effective way to give.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Whether you choose to cover the fee or not, your official tax receipt will always reflect the full gross amount of your donation!
Bot Keywords: processing fee, transaction cost, credit card fee, platform fee, net donation, coverage, convenience fee, surcharge, merchant fees, administrative cost, 3 percent, stripe fee, cover the fee.
-
While our online portal is the fastest way to give, we gratefully accept checks and wire transfers. These methods are often preferred for larger gifts as they avoid credit card processing fees!
Here is how to complete your gift:
1. Giving by Check
Please make your check payable to Affinity University and include a note or memo indicating which fund you’d like to support (e.g., "Class of '98 Scholarship").
Mail your check to:
Affinity University Advancement Attn: Gift Processing 123 University Way, Boulder, CO
2. Giving by Wire Transfer or ACH
For security reasons, we do not post our bank routing and account numbers publicly. To receive our current wiring instructions, please contact our Treasury Office at finance@affinity.edu or call (555) 123-4567.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you are sending a check, please ensure your current return address is on the envelope! This helps our team mail your official tax receipt to the correct location without any delays.
Bot Keywords: check, money order, wire transfer, ach, bank transfer, swift code, routing number, account number, mail a gift, physical check, lockbox, cashier's check, direct deposit, banking instructions. -
Both types of gifts are vital to Affinity University, but they offer different ways to support our mission:
One-Time Gift:
What it is: A single, immediate contribution.
The Impact: Provides a quick "boost" for urgent needs, specific projects, or year-end tax planning.
Best for: Donors who prefer to give a larger lump sum at a specific moment.
Recurring Donation:
What it is: An automated gift scheduled on a regular basis (Monthly, Quarterly, etc.).
The Impact: Provides steady, predictable support that helps the University plan for long-term student programs.
Best for: "Set it and forget it" giving. It allows you to spread a large annual goal into small, manageable monthly amounts.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: Many of our "Young Alumni" prefer recurring gifts! For example, a $10 monthly gift adds up to $120 a year, which can fund a student's textbooks for a full semester.
Bot Keywords: recurring, subscription, monthly giving, automated, frequency, installment, set it and forget it, ongoing support, sustainer, one-time, single gift, immediate impact, lump sum, annual commitment, schedule.
-
Affinity University is proud to have a global community of supporters. We make it easy to give back, no matter where you call home.
Online Giving (International Cards):
Accepted Cards: Our secure online portal accepts most major international credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
Currency Conversion: Your gift will be processed in U.S. Dollars (USD). Your bank or card provider will handle the conversion from your local currency based on the current exchange rate.
Alternative International Methods:
Wire Transfers: For larger international gifts, a bank wire is often the most secure method. Please contact finance@affinity.edu for our SWIFT/BIC codes and wiring instructions.
International Checks: We can accept checks in foreign currencies, though please be aware that bank processing fees may reduce the final impact of the gift.
Tax Deductibility for International Donors:
U.S. Tax: As a 501(c)(3) organization, your gift is tax-deductible in the United States.
Local Tax: Whether your gift is deductible in your home country depends on local tax laws and any active "treaties" with the U.S. We recommend consulting a local tax professional for guidance.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’re living in the UK, Canada, or Hong Kong, there are often "Friends of" organizations or specific foundations that allow for local tax-deductible giving to U.S. universities. Ask us if we have a partner in your region!
Bot Keywords: international donation, foreign currency, overseas gift, global giving, wire transfer, swift code, iban, exchange rate, canadian tax receipt, uk gift aid, cross-border, international credit card, paypal global, flywire, western union.

Both! At Affinity University, your generosity is designed to create an immediate spark while fueling long-term excellence. Depending on how you designate your gift, you can choose the type of impact you'd like to make.
Immediate Impact (Helping Today):
Annual Fund & Student Emergency Aid: These gifts are put to work the moment they are received. They fund current scholarships, modern classroom technology, and urgent financial needs for students currently on campus.
Programmatic Support: Donations to specific departments or clubs provide "real-time" resources for research, travel to competitions, and student-led initiatives happening this semester.
Long-Term Impact (Helping the Future):
Endowed Scholarships: When you contribute to an endowment, the principal is invested, and the earned interest provides a permanent source of funding. This ensures that a student 50 years from now will have the same opportunities as a student today.
Capital Projects: Gifts toward new buildings, labs, or campus renovations create a physical legacy that will serve generations of "Affinity Owls" to come.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: If you’re looking for the fastest way to help, the Affinity Annual Fund is our "Greatest Need" bucket. It allows University leadership to respond to the most pressing student challenges the very same day your gift arrives!
Bot Keywords: current use, endowment, immediate impact, long-term, future generations, sustainable, permanent fund, spendable income, principal, investment, today vs tomorrow, legacy, corpus, annual support.
