I’d like help brainstorming what to include on a personal statement used in the admissions process.
Answer:
At Affinity University, we don’t just look at grades; we look for connection. We want to know how you plan to use technology, data, or business strategy to make the world a more human-centric place.
If you’re sitting down to write your statement, here are four pillars to help you brainstorm:
1. Identify Your "Human" Why
We believe technology is a tool, not the destination. Instead of telling us you love coding or data, tell us who you want to help.
Ask yourself: Does your interest in AI come from wanting to improve accessibility? Does your passion for business stem from a desire to build more ethical companies?
2. Highlight a "Connection" Moment
Think of a time you bridged a gap. Maybe you helped a non-technical teammate understand a complex project, or you used a digital tool to solve a community problem. We value students who can communicate across different fields.
3. Show Your Curiosity for the Future
Affinity is a forward-looking institution. Mention which of our specialized hubs—like the Empowerment Lab or the Affinity Center—excites you most. How will our hands-on environment help you turn your "passion into a paycheck"?
4. Be Authentically You
Don’t worry about sounding "academic" for the sake of it. We value clarity, personality, and a genuine desire to learn. If you’re undecided on a major, that’s okay! Tell us about the problems you are most curious to solve.
Ollie’s Pro-Tip: "Your personal statement is the one part of your application where you get to speak directly to us. Don't just list your resume—tell us the story behind it!"
